Dr Stefania Baldursdottir
I studied Pharmacy in Iceland and obtained a PhD in pharmaceutical technology based on the production and analysis of gels made from alginate sea weed off the coast of Norway, at the University of Oslo, Norway. For over 10 years, I spent my time as an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, where I taught future pharmacists how to make creams according to the strict rules of GMP (good manufacturing practice) that ensures the quality and safety of such products.

What made me start this adventure?
I was often asked by my students: “What is this ingredient for?” This got me thinking, if all those ingredients contained in creams are necessary or even relevant to the needs of our skin. Is this the reason why some people are unable to tolerate some skincare products? As a Pharmacist, I have been taught that you only use ingredients that have a relevant purpose for the product. The skin is the biggest organ in the body and we should start to be more aware what we expose it to.
I got inspired and started making creams for my friends and family using this, “less is more” ideology where only essential, and 100% natural ingredients were used. The feedback was very positive and I was even able to help people with allergies or very sensitive skin by designing creams specifically for them. I also realised that people’s needs are not the same, as everyone has different skin types. Thus, some ingredients may have argued relevance for me but not for you. That is where the idea of personalised skincare came from.

Where did I start this adventure?
In 2018 I decided to focus on skincare, and I moved to nature in the French Hautes-Pyrénées, to get inspired and be closer to the purest ingredients. While living in different cities, I had been missing nature, and this new place really feels like home to me. The production takes place in a small facility in a valley called Haute-Vallée de l’Ouzoum, by the river of Hougarou, where both purity of air and water are reflected in our products.
